Breakfast with the Royal Oak Foundation

The Neighborhood Preservation Center co-sponsored a breakfast talk with the Royal Oak Foundation discussing “Priorities in Heritage and Conservation: A Transatlantic View”. It was an enlightening conversation between Bonnie Burnham, President and Chief Executive Officer, World Monuments Fund & Gill Raikes, Director of Fundraising, The National Trust of England, Wales & Northern Ireland. The Neighborhood Preservation Center hosted a peer roundtable discussion with Mary Kay Judy on the topic of Modern buildings as “movable art” and the implications for the field of preservation. In the Fall 2011 issue of the National Trust for Historic Preservation's Forum Journal her findings were published in the article 'Moving Modern': Modern Architecture as 'Movable' Heritage.
Peer Exchange with University of Utrecht

For the second year in a row, geography students from the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands visited the Center during their field course in NYC to hear presentations by interns from Landmark West!, the Lower East Side Ecology Center, the New York City Economic Development, and the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development. On May 12th from 6pm to 8pm, the Neighborhood Preservation Center hosted an evening with the Williamsburg High School for Architecture and Design - a unique New York City public high school that has developed its curriculum around an historic preservation core.
